Taxi Málaga Airport → Loja
Loja is the first Granada town you reach from Málaga, tucked into the Genil gorge halfway along the A-92. It is a working town rather than a resort, with a Moorish castle above the rooftops and the springs of the Riofrío trout farms just outside. The drive is 80 km via the A-45 and then the A-92, around 55 minutes, for €115 by sedan.
Prices by vehicle
| Vehicle | Total price (VAT included) |
|---|---|
| Sedan 1-4 passengers, 3 suitcases. | €115 |
| Estate 1-4 passengers, 5 suitcases, skis or golf bags. | €138 |
| Minivan 5-8 passengers, 8 suitcases. | €173 |
Single journey, VAT included, on toll-free roads; the AP-46 tunnel at Las Pedrizas is optional and settled separately if you want it. A return is exactly twice this figure. Starting at the train station or the cruise port changes nothing in the price.
Drop-off
Loja climbs from the river up to the castle in tight streets, so the driver stops at your hotel if it has a forecourt or at the closest point where a car can pull in. Many bookings here are for the Royal Hideaway La Bobadilla, out in the countryside towards Salinas, which has its own drive right to the entrance.

What awaits you
- The Alcazaba and the old town steps
- Riofrío and its trout restaurants
- Los Infiernos waterfalls on the Genil
Fifty-five minutes up the A-45 and along the A-92
Loja is where the motorway from Málaga meets the motorway to Granada, so the drive is simply the first half of the Granada run. You climb the A-45 over the Las Pedrizas pass, join the A-92 at the Salinas interchange and ten minutes later the Sierra de Loja rises on the right with the town at its foot in the Genil valley. Loja has several exits from the A-92: the first serves Riofrío and the road towards La Bobadilla, the later ones take you into the town itself and on to the Granada side. Around 80 km and 55 minutes from the airport, for €115 by sedan.
A town built on a hillside
Loja is not a tourist town and that is part of its appeal. The old centre climbs from the Genil in tiers, with the Alcazaba at the top, the Plaza de la Constitución and the market halfway, and the newer streets along the river. Lanes are narrow and one-way, and a few are stepped, so the driver drops you at the hotel entrance if there is one or at the closest point a car can reach, generally a matter of a couple of minutes on foot. Below the town the Genil passes through the small gorge of Los Infiernos, with waterfalls and a walkway, a pleasant hour's stroll from the centre.
La Bobadilla, Riofrío and the countryside
A large share of our Loja bookings are for the Royal Hideaway La Bobadilla, the country hotel set in its own estate on the road between Salinas and Villanueva de Tapia, about twenty minutes from the town and under an hour from the airport. It has its own page on this site with the exact approach. The other magnet is Riofrío, a hamlet of trout restaurants around the springs that feed the fish farms, five minutes off the motorway and a classic Sunday lunch stop for people from Granada and Málaga alike. Both are reached without entering Loja, so tell us which you mean and we route accordingly.
Halfway house between coast and city
Because Loja sits at the midpoint of the A-92, it works as an overnight stop for people who land late and would rather not arrive in Granada after midnight, or as a base for the Poniente Granadino: Alhama de Granada and its hot springs, the Sierra de Loja for walking, Montefrío with its famous viewpoint. From Loja the city of Granada is forty minutes on, and if you want us to do that second leg on another day, ask and we quote it separately.

Local tips for your arrival
- Say whether you are going to the town, to Riofrío or to La Bobadilla; they are different exits and the last two are outside Loja.
- Loja is one of the few Granada-province transfers short enough to book the day before, but for a wedding weekend at La Bobadilla book as soon as your dates are set.
- The Sierra de Loja is snow-dusted a few days each winter; the A-92 itself is rarely affected, but the country roads to Riofrío can be icy early in the morning.
- For Sunday lunch in Riofrío the restaurants fill by two o'clock; if that is your plan on arrival day, tell us and we set the pickup accordingly.
Back to Málaga from Loja
Return pickups are at the hotel door in Loja, at La Bobadilla's entrance or outside the restaurant in Riofrío, whichever you tell us. The drive back is about 55 minutes, so add the terminal margin: two hours before a Schengen flight, two and a half in summer or for flights to the UK and other non-Schengen destinations, and you get a pickup roughly three hours before departure. For an AVE from María Zambrano the station needs less margin than the airport and the driver leaves you at the entrance beside the departures hall; for a cruise, we work from the all-aboard time the ship gives you.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Loja?
The fixed fare to Loja is €115 for a sedan carrying up to four people, €138 for the estate with the large boot and €173 for the minivan for five to eight. Bags, waiting time and VAT are included and the motorway carries no toll.
How long is the drive from Málaga Airport to Loja?
Around 55 minutes for the 80 km, on dual carriageway for almost all of it. Summer Sundays, snow on the mountain roads and city festivals can stretch that; the driver allows for them when he sets your pickup.
Why stop in Loja instead of going through to Granada?
Some travellers choose Loja for a rural hotel or a wedding at La Bobadilla, others for walking or fishing in the Riofrío area. At 55 minutes it is also the shortest Granada-province transfer we run, so a night here then a short hop to the city is a comfortable way to break a long journey.
Can you take us from Málaga Airport to La Bobadilla hotel?
Yes, it is our most requested drop in the Loja area and has its own page here. The hotel sits off the A-333 towards Villanueva de Tapia, reached from the Salinas junction without passing through Loja; about 55 minutes from the airport, and the driver takes the car up the estate road to the entrance.
Do you charge the Granada price for Loja?
No. Loja has its own fare, €115 by sedan, €138 by estate and €173 by minivan, because it is 80 km rather than 135. The price is per car and fixed, so you know it before you land, and the return costs exactly the same.
Is there a train alternative to Loja?
Loja has a small station on the Granada line with limited services, and most visitors find a car simpler. If you arrive by AVE at Málaga María Zambrano we collect you there at the same price as from the airport; the drive from the station is about the same 55 minutes.
Where exactly will I find the driver at Málaga Airport?
Inside the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, standing with a board that shows your name. Every arriving flight, Terminal 2 ones included, walks out through that same hall, so there is only one place to look.
