Seville: Santa Cruz, the Arenal, Triana, Santa Justa and the airport

Taxi Málaga Airport → Seville

Seville is our longest run to the west: 205 km and around two and a quarter hours on the A-45 over the Las Pedrizas pass and then the A-92 across the Antequera plain and the Campiña. There are no tolls on that route. We ask for 48 hours' notice, the same driver takes you from the terminal to your hotel door, and a coffee stop halfway is yours for the asking.

Drop-off

Much of the old town is a maze of one-way lanes watched by restricted-access cameras: Santa Cruz, the Arenal and the streets around the Cathedral. Your driver takes the car to the closest point the rules allow, often the hotel's own unloading bay or the end of the pedestrian stretch, and walks the luggage with you from there. Hotels on the avenues, in Triana, Nervión or beside Santa Justa are door to door.

What awaits you

  • The Cathedral, Giralda and Real Alcázar
  • Santa Cruz and Triana on foot
  • Plaza de España and María Luisa Park

Two hours and a quarter on the A-92, with the olive groves for company

Seville is the longest of our regular runs to the west and also one of the easiest to drive. From Málaga Airport the driver climbs the A-45 over the Las Pedrizas pass, joins the A-92 at Antequera and stays on it all the way: Osuna, Estepa and the long straight through the campiña before the city appears on the plain. There are no tolls on any of it. The fixed price of €279 for a sedan is the same at midnight as at midday, and the driver who takes your bags at the terminal is the one who carries them to your hotel door.

Allow 130 minutes door to door in normal conditions. The A-92 is a dual carriageway the whole way, so summer traffic barely touches it; what does add time is the last stretch into the city on the SE-30 ring road at rush hour, and the days of Semana Santa and the Feria, when whole districts close to traffic. If you are landing on one of those dates, tell us where you are staying and we will plan the approach with you.

Where the car can and cannot go in the old city

Seville's historic centre is one of the largest in Europe and much of it is closed to non-resident vehicles. Santa Cruz, the streets around the cathedral and the Alcázar, and parts of the Arenal are pedestrian or controlled by bollards that only open for residents and hotel guests with a registered plate. Most hotels inside these zones send the plate to the council in advance if you give it to them, and we pass ours on when you tell us the hotel name at booking. Where that is not possible, the driver stops at the nearest open street, usually within two or three minutes on foot, and walks the luggage with you.

Triana, across the river, and the newer districts of Nervión and Los Remedios are normal city streets with kerbside stops. Santa Justa station has a drop-off lane at the main entrance and Seville airport, if you are connecting to another flight, a departures kerb: both are within the same fixed price.

Feria, Semana Santa and the hot months

Two weeks in spring change the city completely. During Semana Santa the processions close the centre from mid-afternoon until the small hours, and a hotel that is a five-minute drive on a Tuesday can take forty minutes on Good Friday. The Feria de Abril moves the crowds to Los Remedios, on the far side of the river, and the streets around the fairground are closed to cars. In both cases we still get you as close as the police lines allow and the driver knows which bridges are open at which hour.

From June to September the city is very hot in the afternoon. If you can choose, a morning flight means arriving before the heat peaks; the car is air-conditioned all the way, and the driver can stop for water at a service area on the A-92 if you ask.

Groups, families and business travellers

For four people with normal luggage the sedan is enough. Families with pushchairs, or anyone with more than three suitcases, are better in the estate at €335, which has the boot for it and costs less per head than two separate cars. Groups of five to eight travel together in the minivan for €419, with child seats fitted free if you ask for them in the form. Companies booking for visiting staff can add the flight number and a contact name so the driver reports the pickup to the right person.

Local tips for your arrival

  • Give us the hotel name, not just the street: in the old city the name tells the driver which bollard entrance to use.
  • If you land during Semana Santa or the Feria, send us your check-in time and we will suggest the best approach and a realistic arrival hour.
  • Book at least 48 hours ahead; this route ties up a car and a driver for the best part of a day.
  • Ask for a stop at a service area on the A-92 if you travel with small children; the drive is long for them without a break.

Back to Málaga from Seville

For the trip back we collect you at your hotel door or at the nearest open street of the old city, at the time you choose. From central Seville to Málaga Airport count 130 minutes plus the two hours you want in the terminal, two and a half in summer or for flights outside the Schengen area, so a midday flight means leaving around eight in the morning. The driver can also collect you at Santa Justa if you arrive by train from Madrid and want to fly out of Málaga.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Seville?

The fixed fare to Seville is €279 for a sedan carrying up to four people, €335 for the estate with the large boot and €419 for the minivan for five to eight. Bags, waiting time and VAT are included and the motorway carries no toll.

How long is the drive from Málaga Airport to Seville?

Around 130 minutes for the 205 km, on dual carriageway for almost all of it. Summer Sundays, snow on the mountain roads and city festivals can stretch that; the driver allows for them when he sets your pickup.

Can you drop us at Santa Justa station or Seville airport instead of a hotel?

Yes. Santa Justa, San Pablo airport and the bus stations are all valid drop-off points at the same fixed price as the city centre. Tell us the train or flight time when you book and we plan the departure from Málaga with a margin, so a slow stretch on the A-92 does not eat into your connection.

Does the driver stop on the way to Seville?

Yes, if you want to. Tell the driver when you set off and he will pull into a service area on the A-92 for a coffee or a toilet break of ten or fifteen minutes. It is part of the journey, not an extra, and it does not change the fixed price.

Is the AP-46 toll tunnel used on the way to Seville?

Not unless you ask. The free A-45 climbs over Las Pedrizas and rejoins the same road a few minutes later; the tunnel is optional and, if you prefer it, you pay its toll to the driver separately. The rest of the route to Seville is toll-free.

Can we do Seville as a return trip on the same day?

Yes. Book a return and the driver waits in Seville or comes back for you at the hour you set; the return costs exactly double the one-way fare. For a day out from the cruise port, tell us the sailing time and we plan the pickup with margin.

Where exactly will I find the driver at Málaga Airport?

Inside the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, standing with a board that shows your name. Every arriving flight, Terminal 2 ones included, walks out through that same hall, so there is only one place to look.

How much notice do the long routes need?

Two days for anything beyond 150 kilometres: Seville, Córdoba, Jaén, Úbeda, Almería, Roquetas, Mojácar, Sierra Nevada, Lanjarón and Guadix. The car and the driver are set aside for most of a day. Nearer destinations are usually confirmed the same day.
