Taxi Málaga Airport → Motril
Motril is the working city of the Costa Tropical: a commercial port, a ferry terminal for Melilla and the Moroccan coast, and the point where the A-44 leaves the sea and climbs to Granada. The transfer from Málaga Airport covers about 105 km in 80 minutes on the A-7, still with no toll. The city centre is inland; the beaches of Playa Granada and Torrenueva lie a few kilometres south and east.
Prices by vehicle
| Vehicle | Total price (VAT included) |
|---|---|
| Sedan 1-4 passengers, 3 suitcases. | €129 |
| Estate 1-4 passengers, 5 suitcases, skis or golf bags. | €155 |
| Minivan 5-8 passengers, 8 suitcases. | €194 |
Single journey, VAT included, on toll-free roads; the AP-46 tunnel at Las Pedrizas is optional and settled separately if you want it. A return is exactly twice this figure. Starting at the train station or the cruise port changes nothing in the price.
Drop-off
Motril is a proper town with wide avenues, so the driver takes you to the door anywhere: hotels in the centre, the apartment blocks along Playa Granada, the fishing quarter of Varadero or the ferry terminal inside the port. For ferry passengers we drop you at the passenger building with time to spare for check-in. Bags come out of the boot and go with you to the kerb or the reception desk.

End of the coastal motorway, start of the road to Granada
Motril is the last stop on the Costa Tropical for most of our passengers and the longest of the four: 105 km and about 80 minutes. The A-7 carries you the whole way without a toll, from the airport ring road through the Axarquía, over the viaducts past Nerja and along the Granada coast. Just before the city the motorway meets the A-44, the road that climbs the Guadalfeo valley to Granada in about an hour; that junction is why Motril matters as a transport hub and not only as a beach town.
The Motril exit brings you down to a ring of roundabouts. The centre lies inland, around the church of the Encarnación and Plaza de España; the port and the fishing quarter of Varadero are to the south-west; Playa Granada, with its golf course, apartments and hotels, is to the south; Torrenueva Costa, a separate village with a long beach, is to the east.
A port city rather than a resort
Motril earns its living from the port, the greenhouses and the services of a town of its size, so it feels different from Almuñécar or Salobreña: a real high street, a covered market, a hospital, a bus station with services inland to Granada and along the coast. Ferries leave the port for Melilla, Nador, Al Hoceima and Tangier Med, which brings families and lorry drivers through town all year. The old sugar factory has become a museum, the Museo Preindustrial de la Caña de Azúcar, and the sanctuary on the Cerro de la Virgen above the centre gives the best look at the vega and the sea.
Ferry passengers and late arrivals
If you are connecting to a ferry, tell us the sailing time and the operator. The passenger terminal is inside the port, reached from the port roundabout; the driver takes you through the gate to the building itself. Check-in windows vary by company and by whether you take a vehicle, so confirm them with the operator and give us that time rather than the departure time. Night arrivals are straightforward: the A-7 is lit at every junction, Motril's avenues are wide and there is always a bar open near the port. For a late ferry we plan the airport pick-up so you are not sitting in the terminal for hours.

Local tips for your arrival
- Give the ferry company and sailing time, not just 'the port': check-in closes earlier for cars than for foot passengers.
- Playa Granada is a ten-minute drive from the centre with no shops of its own; if you are self-catering, stock up on the way.
- The bus to Granada leaves from the station on Avenida Salobreña; check times with the operator if you plan a day trip.
- For Sierra Nevada or the Alpujarra from Motril, the A-44 is the road; villages such as Lanjarón are under an hour away.
Back to Málaga from Motril
Heading back, we pick up at your hotel, at the apartment door in Playa Granada, or outside the ferry terminal if you have just come off a boat. Plan on 80 minutes to the airport plus two hours in the terminal, two and a half from June to September and for non-Schengen flights. For a 09:00 departure that means leaving Motril before 5:30, which is a quiet and easy drive. Passengers going to the train station or the cruise port pay the same and are dropped at the door; for the port we can time the pick-up to the ship's boarding hours if you send them.
From the train station or the cruise port
The fixed price to Motril is the same from Málaga-María Zambrano train station and from the cruise port. Choose your origin in the form; the driver meets you at the platform exit or outside the cruise terminal.

Frequently asked questions
How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Motril?
The fixed fare to Motril is €129 for a sedan carrying up to four people, €155 for the estate with the large boot and €194 for the minivan for five to eight. Bags, waiting time and VAT are included and the motorway carries no toll.
How long is the drive from Málaga Airport to Motril?
Around 80 minutes for the 105 km, on dual carriageway for almost all of it. Summer Sundays, snow on the mountain roads and city festivals can stretch that; the driver allows for them when he sets your pickup.
Do you take passengers from Málaga Airport to the ferry at Motril port?
Yes, and it is one of the reasons people book this route. Tell us the sailing time and we will suggest a pick-up that allows for the 80-minute drive plus the check-in window your ferry operator asks for. The passenger terminal is inside the port gates; we drive right up to it.
How long does it take from Málaga Airport to Motril?
About 80 minutes for 105 km, all on the A-7. It is the furthest of our Costa Tropical routes but the road is fast the whole way; the only regular slow spots are the airport ring road on weekday mornings and the Torre del Mar stretch on summer Sundays. Nothing on the route is a toll road.
Which vehicle for a golf group going to Playa Granada?
Two or three players with bags fit the estate at €155, which takes golf bags flat in the boot. Groups of five to eight book the minivan at €194 each way; it has room for eight cases or a mix of suitcases and clubs. Larger parties travel in two cars.
Do you also pick up in Torrenueva Costa or Calahonda?
Yes. Torrenueva is a few minutes east of Motril on the N-340 and counts as the same route. For Calahonda, Carchuna or Castell de Ferro ask us for a quote when you book, because they add distance beyond Motril.
Where exactly will I find the driver at Málaga Airport?
Inside the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, standing with a board that shows your name. Every arriving flight, Terminal 2 ones included, walks out through that same hall, so there is only one place to look.
