Granada city, the Albaicín and the Alhambra hill

Taxi Málaga Airport → Hotel Alhambra Palace

Hotel Alhambra Palace is the neo-Nasrid palace opened in 1910 on the Alhambra hill, a few minutes' walk from the monument's gates. Its terrace hangs over the city, with the Realejo quarter directly below and the Sierra Nevada on the horizon. It is a grand, historic hotel rather than a modern one, and one of Granada's landmarks.

Drop-off

After the A-45 climb over Las Pedrizas and the A-92 past Loja, the driver comes into Granada and winds up from the Realejo, through the Antequeruela, to the hotel's forecourt. Cars are allowed up to the entrance even though the streets below are restricted, so you and your bags are dropped at the door.

Up the A-45, along the A-92 and onto the hill

The 135 km from Málaga Airport take around 90 minutes: the A-45 climbs through the Las Pedrizas pass with no toll (the AP-46 tunnel is an option only if you ask for it and pay it separately), then the A-92 runs east past Loja and drops into the Vega de Granada. The driver comes off the ring road on the south side and heads for the Realejo, the old Jewish quarter below the Alhambra. From there the climb to the hotel is by the Cuesta del Realejo and the Antequeruela, streets that are restricted to general traffic but open to vehicles taking guests to the hotels on the hill.

Night arrivals and the Alhambra ticket

Many guests come here for an early Alhambra slot the next morning, and it works well: the monument's gate is a few minutes uphill on foot from the hotel, with no need to think about parking or the minibus. If you land late, the drive is easy at night and the hotel forecourt is lit; the only slow point can be the ring road at the evening rush. Remember that Alhambra tickets have a fixed entry time for the Nasrid Palaces, so check that hour before you set the pick-up time for your return.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Hotel Alhambra Palace?

The fixed fare to Hotel Alhambra Palace is €199 for a sedan carrying up to four people, €239 for the estate with the large boot and €299 for the minivan for five to eight. Bags, waiting time and VAT are included and the motorway carries no toll.

How long is the drive from Málaga Airport to Hotel Alhambra Palace?

Around 90 minutes for the 135 km, on dual carriageway for almost all of it. Summer Sundays, snow on the mountain roads and city festivals can stretch that; the driver allows for them when he sets your pickup.

Can you take me straight to the Alhambra for a timed ticket?

Yes. Alhambra tickets carry an entry time, so tell us the slot when you book and we plan the departure with margin. The driver goes round the ring road to the Alhambra car park by the ticket office, or up the Cuesta de Gomérez if you are staying at the Parador or the Alhambra Palace, which have their own access.

Can the car really get up to the hotel?

Yes. The streets of the Realejo are restricted, but access to the hotels on the Alhambra hill is allowed, and our drivers know the route through the Antequeruela to the forecourt. You are dropped at the door with your luggage, not at the bottom of the hill.

Is the AP-46 tunnel worth paying for?

It saves a few minutes on the climb over Las Pedrizas and not much more, and the ordinary A-45 is free and perfectly good. We use the toll tunnel only if you ask for it, and the fee is paid separately. For most Alhambra Palace transfers the standard route is the sensible choice.

Where exactly will I find the driver at Málaga Airport?

Inside the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, standing with a board that shows your name. Every arriving flight, Terminal 2 ones included, walks out through that same hall, so there is only one place to look.
