Drop-off

From the airport it is the A-45, the A-92 and Granada's ring road before the A-395 climbs to Pradollano, about two hours in all. The driver brings the car to the hotel's drop-off point by the square and unloads skis and bags. In winter he checks the state of the road before leaving Málaga.

Two hours from the airport to Pradollano

The Sierra Nevada transfer is 165 km and about two hours. The first part is the Granada run, the A-45 and the A-92, then the ring road around the city, and from the south-east the A-395 starts to climb. It is a proper mountain road: bend after bend from the Genil valley up to Pradollano at 2,100 metres, with the tree line and then the snow line passing by the window. The Meliá Sol y Nieve is in the lower village, next to the main square, so the driver comes into the resort and stops at the hotel's drop-off area without going up to the higher streets.

Skis, boots and the winter road

In ski season the A-395 can require chains or close during snowfalls. Our driver checks the road situation before leaving Málaga and adjusts the timing with you if there is a warning. For luggage, a ski bag and a boot bag per person add up quickly: the estate car carries them for up to four people, and a minivan is better for a group of five or more. At the hotel you are a short walk from the ski school meeting points and the lower lifts, so many guests are on the snow within an hour of arriving.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Meliá Sol y Nieve?

The fixed fare to Meliá Sol y Nieve is €259 for a sedan carrying up to four people, €311 for the estate with the large boot and €389 for the minivan for five to eight. Bags, waiting time and VAT are included and the motorway carries no toll.

How long is the drive from Málaga Airport to Meliá Sol y Nieve?

Around 120 minutes for the 165 km, on dual carriageway for almost all of it. Summer Sundays, snow on the mountain roads and city festivals can stretch that; the driver allows for them when he sets your pickup.

What happens if it snows heavily on the day of my transfer?

In winter the A-395 can require chains or close for a while after a heavy fall, and the resort publishes the road status. Your driver checks it before setting off and adjusts timing or route accordingly. We keep your flight tracked as usual, and if the road is shut we let you know as soon as we know.

Do you drive up in snow?

The road is maintained and open most of the season, and our driver checks the state of the A-395 before setting off from Málaga. If the authorities close or restrict the road, we contact you and agree the best option together. In deep winter it is worth confirming the plan with us the day before.

Which vehicle for a family of four with skis?

The estate car. It takes four passengers and five items of luggage or the equivalent in ski and boot bags, at €311 one way. For five or more people, or four with a lot of equipment, the minivan at €389 gives room for everything. Child seats are free in both.

Where exactly will I find the driver at Málaga Airport?

Inside the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, standing with a board that shows your name. Every arriving flight, Terminal 2 ones included, walks out through that same hall, so there is only one place to look.

How much notice do the long routes need?

Two days for anything beyond 150 kilometres: Seville, Córdoba, Jaén, Úbeda, Almería, Roquetas, Mojácar, Sierra Nevada, Lanjarón and Guadix. The car and the driver are set aside for most of a day. Nearer destinations are usually confirmed the same day.
