Granada city, the Albaicín and the Alhambra hill

Taxi Málaga Airport → Parador de Granada

The Parador de Granada is inside the Alhambra walls, in the former convent of San Francisco, a fifteenth-century building set among the monument's gardens. It is one of the very few places to sleep within the grounds, so guests walk to the Nasrid Palaces and the Generalife without leaving the site. Small, historic and very quiet once the day visitors have gone.

Drop-off

The driver approaches by the Alhambra road that climbs from the city, where a checkpoint controls vehicles entering the site. Cars bringing guests to the Parador are let through, and the car continues to the hotel's own door on Calle Real de la Alhambra. Luggage is unloaded right there; there are no cobbled lanes to negotiate with cases.

Through the checkpoint into the Alhambra grounds

The road journey is the usual Granada run, 135 km and about an hour and a half by the A-45 and the A-92, but the last part is unlike any other hotel in the city. Once in Granada the driver takes the Alhambra access road that climbs from the south-east, past the monument's car parks, to a barrier where vehicles entering the site are checked. The Parador is inside, so the car is let through and follows Calle Real de la Alhambra past the Palace of Charles V to the hotel's entrance. It is a slow, careful kilometre with visitors on foot everywhere, and your driver takes it gently.

Timing with the Nasrid Palaces

Guests of the Parador usually have Alhambra tickets, and the Nasrid Palaces slot is the one that sets the day. If your flight lands in the morning and the slot is in the afternoon, the 90-minute transfer leaves plenty of room; a late-afternoon landing with an early slot the next day is fine too, since you sleep inside the walls. At the end of the stay, the return car comes back up through the same control, so allow a few minutes for it and leave the hotel with time to spare for the ring road.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a taxi from Málaga Airport to Parador de Granada?

The fixed fare to Parador de Granada is €199 for a sedan carrying up to four people, €239 for the estate with the large boot and €299 for the minivan for five to eight. Bags, waiting time and VAT are included and the motorway carries no toll.

How long is the drive from Málaga Airport to Parador de Granada?

Around 90 minutes for the 135 km, on dual carriageway for almost all of it. Summer Sundays, snow on the mountain roads and city festivals can stretch that; the driver allows for them when he sets your pickup.

Can you take me straight to the Alhambra for a timed ticket?

Yes. Alhambra tickets carry an entry time, so tell us the slot when you book and we plan the departure with margin. The driver goes round the ring road to the Alhambra car park by the ticket office, or up the Cuesta de Gomérez if you are staying at the Parador or the Alhambra Palace, which have their own access.

Will the car be let through the Alhambra barrier?

Yes. The control on the access road exists to keep casual traffic out of the monument, and cars bringing guests to the Parador are admitted. Give us the name on the reservation, and the driver mentions the hotel at the barrier. From there it is a short drive to the door.

What if we land at night?

Hotel guests can be driven in after dark, and the grounds are quiet and very atmospheric once the day visitors have left. The drive from Málaga is easy at night, roughly 90 minutes. Keep the hotel confirmation to hand in case it is asked for at the control.

Where exactly will I find the driver at Málaga Airport?

Inside the arrivals hall of Terminal 3, standing with a board that shows your name. Every arriving flight, Terminal 2 ones included, walks out through that same hall, so there is only one place to look.
